Robotics Collaborative Space

Our primary lab space is located in the Robotics Collaboratve Space on the 3rd floor of Boelter Hall. Our lab has a 1,000 sq. ft. footprint of dedicated space, and we share the rest of the interdisciplinary lab space (approximately 10,000 sq. ft. total) with five other research groups in different areas of robotics.

Human Gait Laboratory

Within the Robotics Collaborative Space, we share a 900 sq. ft. motion capture space equipped with a 16-camera Vicon system, both wireless (surface) and wired (fine-wire) electromyography systems, and a split-belt instrumented treadmill with variable incline/decline. We also have a dedicated exam room, in which we prepare subjects for biomechanics studies.

Surgical Innovation Suite

In this space, we work together with our surgeon collaborators to design new operations and evalute implant systems. Located on the 2nd Floor of UCLA's Rehabiliation Center, this unique space is designed to replicate the feel and resources of an operating room. We also use this space to prepare specimens for biomechanical testing.

Biomechanical Experimentation Room

In this space, we perform mechanical testing of cadaveric specimens and implant samples. Located on the 2nd Floor of UCLA's Rehabiliation Center, immediately adjacent our Surgical Innovation Suite, this room is equipped with an industrial robotic manipulator arm (KUKA). The KUKA arm is programmed to reproduce full six degree of freedom motion, such as joint kinematics during a gait cycle.

Implant Workshop

This space, located adjacent to the Surgical Innovation Suite, houses our workbenches and equipment for assembly and benchtop testing of implants. We also have a station dedicated to molding of pourable elastomers, which we use in both implants and residual limb models.
