We invite applications for a postdoctoral scholar position to begin as soon as July 2022. This position will emphasize bionic engineering, with a focus on limb reconstruction and amputation prevention for persons with severe limb pathology. The postdoctoral scholar will join a dynamic team of engineers to develop novel implant architectures, and will work side-by-side in surgical design with orthopaedic surgeons from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Specific research goals will be set to align with the postdoctoral scholar’s professional aspirations, in consultation with the Principle Investigator. The scholar will have access to infrastructure and training support for biomechanical simulation, finite element modeling, mechanical testing, and relevant orthopaedic pathophysiology, among other resources. The position is funded for an initial period of 1 year with the possibility for renewal.

We are currently looking to hire Ph.D. seeking graduate students in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Current research initiatives will appeal particularly to those with interests in design, modeling, controls, and movement biomechanics. Prospective students should apply to the MAE department, indicating Prof. Clites as a potential advisor on the application. In addition, strongly interested students should also email Prof. Clites at clites [at] ucla [dot] edu prior to admissions decisions; include with this email your resume/CV and a short description of your research interests. Research funding typically supports tuition and a living stipend for graduate students; however, we highly encourage students seek external fellowships.
