Rasheedat Ekiyoyo awarded Eugene V. Cota-Robles Fellowship

Alyssa Tomkinson awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Senior undergraduate Alyssa Tomkinson was awarded a graduate fellowship in the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Alyssa has been with the Anatomical Engineering Group since 2020, and has carried out impressive independent research in ankle joint reconstruction. Alyssa will be staying with us at UCLA for her Ph.D. starting Fall 2023!

John McCullough awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Senior undergraduate John McCullough was awarded a graduate fellowship in the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. John has been with the Anatomical Engineering Group since 2021. His work has focused primarily on a compliant knee replacement implant. John will be attending MIT for his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, starting Fall 2023!

Anatomical Engineering Group presents at AAOS in Las Vegas, NV

Ph.D. student Will Flanagan gave a podium presentation on his work in electromagnetic prosthetic suspension. Brandon Peterson (Ph.D. candidate), Bailey Mooney (medical student), and Alyssa Tomkinson (undergraduate researcher) all presented posters on their work in compliant limb reconstruction. We had a great time at the conference, and especially enjoyed seeing the state of the art in orthopaedic technology at the Exhibition Hall!

OH assists with blind soccer

Lab members volunteer with the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) in San Diego, CA

Seven lab members made the trip down to San Diego to volunteer for CAF’s annual Community Challenge Weekend, and assisted with Blind Soccer, Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, and the Running Clinic. We had a great time out in the community with these incredible athletes! Learn more.

Masters Student Gracia Lai presents at the BMES Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX

This was our lab’s first presentation at a national conference! Gracia presented her masters thesis work on an implantable thumb prosthesis.

Prof. Clites awarded NIH New Innovator Award

This five-year grant will support our collaborative efforts in limb reconstruction. Our goal in this work is to restore limb function, alleviate pain, and prevent unnecessary amputation. Learn more.

Anatomical Engineering Group attends SoCal Robotics Symposium

Several members of the lab presented their research findings at SCR2022, which we hosted on campus at UCLA. Third-year PhD student was awarded the People’s Choice Award for Best Poster, for her work on ACL injury prevention. Prof. Clites also won the People’s Choice Award for his New Faculty talk. Model of Implant and Magnet

Anatomical Engineering Group receives National Science Foundation and Department of Defense grants to improve prosthetic suspension

In collaboration with Dr. Nicholas Bernthal, Dr. Alexandra Stavrakis, and Dr. Thomas Hardin (Sandia National Labs), we will be working to develop an implant and prosthetic socket that hold prosthetic limbs onto the body via electromagnetic attraction. These two awards support development of attachment systems for the upper and lower extremities, respectively. Learn more.

Incoming Ph.D. Student Michael Rose awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Incoming Ph.D. student Michael Rose was awarded a fellowship as part of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Michael intends to develop surgically-invasive EMG-based control strategies for persons with paralysis. We're very excited to have him on board!
