Compliant Joint Reconstruction
Compliant Ankle Endo-Orthosis
In cases of severe combined pathology of the ankle and hindfoot, the surrounding soft tissues (ie. muscle and ligaments) may also be compromised. When this occurs, the ankle joint does not have adequate native stiffness to achieve typical gait, often occurring in gait abnormalities such as drop foot. To counteract the weakening of the soft tissues, we developed an ankle endo-orthosis which works in conjunction with the compliant ankle endoprosthesis our lab has developed (see Complaint Ankle Endoprosthesis page for more detail).
The ankle endo-orthosis is composed of the ankle endoprosthesis with two parallel torsional springs, one on either side of the central mechanism.
